WOMEN IN MEDIA 2025 AT QUB NOV 18

UPDATE!

We like to pull on all three strands of the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement with our event line ups which represent the jurisdictions across these islands.

The #WIM25 media women’s panel, chaired by Halla Mohieddeen, will explore reporting from a small jurisdiction, shared island/s media collaboration and initiatives, amplifying women’s voices, media safety locally and internationally, freelancing and more. It will include reps from Women in Journalism Scotland, Women on Air, Women in Media Belfast & the NUJ.

Halla Mohieddeen from Women in Journalism Scotland is a freelance broadcast journalist, presenter and podcaster based in Glasgow. Specialising in international news, Halla has worked for Al Jazeera, Sky News, France 24 and is now freelancing with BBC Scotland. She currently fronts the award-winning True Crime Reports, which takes underreported true crime stories from the Global South and beyond, and brings them to life in a unique and ground-breaking video podcast.

Catriona Stewart from Women in Journalism Scotland is education and politics correspondent for The Scotsman and broadcaster based in Scotland.

She was named Opinion Writer of the Year 2025 at the Regional Press Awards, Nicola Barry Award winner 2025 and shortlisted for Reporter of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards.

She has covered an array of beats, from crime, court and foreign reporting to travel, features and the arts. Her bylines include The Times and Sunday Times, the Scottish Daily Mail, the Scottish Sun, the Daily Record, CBC, the BBC, The Spectator, The Observer and various DC Thomson titles, and she is a regular contributor to the BBC, STV and Sky News.

Catriona’s recent documentary reached UK No.2 most watched on Amazon Prime.

She is a children’s panel member and vice-chair of Women in Journalism Scotland.

Alison O’Connor from Women on Air is a journalist, broadcaster and author. She writes a weekly column for The Sunday Times.

As a current affairs commentator she appears regularly on radio and television. She has worked previously as a political correspondent for The Irish Times and Irish Independent, as well as a columnist for The Irish Examiner and The Business Post.

She is an author and her most recent book "It's a Yes", co written with the directors of the It's a Yes campaign, examined the hugely successful, female-led, Repeal the 8th campaign.

Amanda Ferguson from Women in Media Belfast is a north Belfast woman and freelance journalist working as a Northern Ireland Correspondent and Ireland Stringer for newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, and digital outlets. 

Since 2010 Amanda has been part of Ireland, UK, and international teams as an in demand writer, broadcaster, commentator, trainer, fixer, event panellist and host. 

She is on the National Executive Council of the National Union of Journalists, which is an Ireland and Britain trade union. She is a cofounder and operational director of Women in Media Belfast CIC, chair of the Give Inc Women's Fund giving circle, a Social Change Initiative fellow, and a media awards judge.

We listened to your feedback last year. The day is very simple. Registration and coffee from 9.30am, the speaking bit from 10-1, including a break, and then the lunch , Jawbox Gin, and networking/chatting bit is from 1-3pm.
